Brassworks (BW) is an outreach ensemble of Jericho Brass Band of Chattanooga. Conceived over eighteen years ago as a smaller group that could perform in venues that could not accommodate the larger 35 piece band ensemble, Brassworks brings the sound of a brassband in a smaller context.

Performing musicians have varied from three to fifteen players but as of late has settled into six-to-eight players who rehearse weekly and perform about two times per month.

Since its beginning, Brassworks has performed for school assemblies, church worship and auxiliary services, retirement centers, military occasions and community block parties. In these venues, they can play marches, folksongs, patriotic selections, pop tunes and hymns. The goal of BW is to provide musical entertainment for all to enjoy in smaller settings.

In addition to the performance programs mentioned above, Brassworks has traveled to Mississippi and Kentucky to perform concerts as well as provide instrumental workshops for local schools.

The leader of the group, Dan Hanson plays trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn and is Brassworks’ coordinator as well as contributing arranger to JBB. Much of the ensemble’s music is composed or arranged by him. BW has been graciously received and appreciated wherever it has performed.
